Frank Marshall hints at a return for Henry Wu in Jurassic World 2!

Frank Marshall hints at a return for Henry Wu in Jurassic World 2!

One of the lingering questions of Jurassic World was the fate of Dr. Henry Wu after the closing scenes of the movie. Last scene escaping the Isla Nublar in a helicopter with dinosaur embryos in store, his ending seemed to tease a sequel. BD Wong has been quick to deny reports of his return via twitter though, which shed some doubt on his character's potential role in the sequel.

Cinemablend obtained an interview with the executive producer of Jurassic World, Frank Marshall. The outlet asked him directly if BD Wong would be back for the sequel. Marshall responded, directly referencing Henry Wu's escape from Isla Nublar via helicopter in the film:

"When they take off in helicopters, you know they're probably going to come back."

Frank Marshall's statements may indicate a confirmation that Henry Wu will return in the Jurassic World sequel. The dialogue during Wu's escape suggests strongly that the deal that Hoskins had earlier made with Wu in the film was still intact.

In Jurassic World, the deal that Hoskins and Wu had made resulted in the creation of the Indominus Rex, which was intended to be a prototype for the eventual militarization of dinosaurs. Hoskins and Wu were also researching other hybrids, including the Stegoceratops, which was prominently displayed on a screen in Wu's lab.

Wu's escape with the research in tow hints at these ideas being continued at least in spirit in the sequel. This does not guarantee we will see hybrids, but perhaps some form or another of exploitation of dinosaurs for profit. This news opens the potential for a whole new avenue of possibilities for the plot of the sequel.

Jurassic World 2 will be released on June 22, 2018. Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt will return to play Claire Dearing and Owen Grady in the film. Toby Jones and Rafe Spall will star in unspecified roles as well. The movie will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, who has directed 'The Impossible.

It's odd that Wong would blatantly suggest he isn't returning but have Marshall suggest he is. Perhaps Marshall means InGEN will be back, the company, rather than Dr. Wu specifically.
